The best travel-friendly beauty tips

The best travel-friendly beauty tips

Whether you’re jetting off to a lush landscape or taking a fun road trip, you still want to look and feel your best. The great news is that you don’t have to sacrifice your beauty routine while you’re away from home.
In this article, we’ll share some helpful tips for taking care of your skin and makeup while you travel, so you can look and feel good wherever you end up!

Refresh and rehydrate with toner

Toners and mists may sometimes be underrated, but we love them for their versatility. We all know that planes and hotels are notorious for having super dry air. Mist your skin to keep it refreshed, moisturized and feeling good. Toners and mists are a perfect solution to this problem.

Toner is the ideal multi-purpose product on the road. It adds a burst of refreshing hydration and an infusion of nutrients whenever your skin needs a little boost, at any time of the day. It preps your skin to better absorb your skin care products and it even helps to set your makeup for the day!

We adore Living Libations toners, because they are full of great ingredients and they feel great on your skin. The rose mist is gentle, great for any skin type, and conjures up the sweet scent of a rose garden.

Travel sizes are your essential travel partners

Forget about trying to pack a bunch of full-sized bottles in your bag, you need space to bring back those special purchases! Instead, consider purchasing travel-sized bottles and filling them with all your favourite products so you don’t miss out on any of your favourites and they won’t take up too much space. Alternatively, try our best-selling Trial and Travel Kit by Dr. Alkaitis. This kit has everything you need for great skin and if you haven’t tried it before, you just may find your latest obsession.

If you're looking for the ultimate multi-purpose travel kit, try WORLD Skin and Hair's Try ourWORLD Gift/Travel Set. With this kit, you get 5 excellent products for hair and skin, including your shampoo and body wash, your hair and face moisturizers, a salt spray and a hairspray. Plus, they come in a pouch that's ready to grab and go.

Skincare for the minimalist

If your small suitcase leaves you wanting to minimize the number of products you take with you, try a cleansing oil. Living Libations’ Best Skin Ever oils cleanse, remove makeup and moisturize all at the same time.

Try Seabuckthorn, Frankincense or Rose

Best of all, you can use these amazing oils to moisturize any part of your body, and they’re especially great for hydrating your skin after being in the sun.

We all know that washing your face and taking off your makeup before bed is a necessity. If you're looking for something quick and effective, try Kaia Natural's The Vitamin Cleanse. These wipes are not only compostable, but they remove dirt and makeup in seconds. Throw your used wipes into the compost if available, or you can even plant them and let nature do the rest. If you've been wearing sunscreen or makeup, you can do a first cleanse with your wipes and then do your oil cleansing.

Hydration is key

Nothing saps moisture out of the skin faster than dry plane or hotel air, so keeping your skin hydrated by drinking enough water and applying a hydrating product is super important. A multi-purpose moisturizer will be the best bet for travel. WORLD Hair & Skin makes Protect, a perfect moisturizer to use on your body, your face, as a conditioner and even as a leave-in conditioner for your hair (use sparingly as a leave-in).

Don't forget the SPF

SPF is your best friend during your time away! It protects your skin against harmful UV rays that can speed up the signs of aging, contribute to hyperpigmentation, increase your risk of skin cancer and seriously dry out your skin. Opt for a physical sunblock, mineral-based SPF of 30 or higher and cover all areas of exposed skin.

We have several sunscreens that are easy to love! Made especially for your face, The Perfect Sunscreen is lightly tinted so that it's never white, and has a glowy finish, which means it can easily be worn on its own without makeup. The tint works on every all shades of skin, and is a fantastic base for makeup or just a light dusting of finishing powder if you prefer a more matte finish. The Perfect Sunscreen comes in a travel size, making it suitcase-friendly too.

Taos Aer's Broad Spectrum Mineral Sunscreen is another super high quality sunscreen that shows just how far mineral sunscreens have come. This is a sunscreen that you can use on your face or body and is water resistant for up to 40 minutes. Although it initially goes on white, it blends extremely well and the white disappears really quickly. The scent is light and citrusy and the finish is matte yet moisturized.

If you favour a simpler option, Living Libations’ Everybody Loves the Sunshine, with Zinc, and its travel-friendly version in a little stick, Everybody Loves the Sunshine Beach Balm are simple in that they are made primarily of essential oils and sun blocking zinc. The stick is ideal for throwing in your bag for touch ups, whether you’re heading to the beach or touring a new city.

Carry one potent active treatment

Even though you’re out exploring the world, you may want to choose just one potent treatment that will help your skin look its radiant best all holiday long.

We love vitamin C for its skin brightening, protective and skin healing properties, and Consonant's Vitamin C + Licorice Serum is a standout.

If your skin tends to be dry when you travel, try Consonant's HydrExtreme serum. This superstar product is so concentrated, a drop or two is more than enough. This serum comes in a smaller travel bottle, and doubles as an eye serum, so you'll have one less thing to pack.

Makeup for the road

The best way to minimize your makeup routine is to take multi-purpose products with you. Let’s start with the basics. Pack a stick foundation that doubles as concealer, a gorgeous mascara, a fantastic lip gloss or lip balm, and you’re good to go! (Just don’t forget to apply sunscreen first!). Take along a versatile eye makeup palette, and a blush that includes a highlighter, or a cream blush that doubles as lipstick, or a multi stick that can be used as blush, lipstick or even eyeshadow.

Looking for a three-in-one makeup solution? This stunning Aether Beauty eye palette even includes shades that can double as blush and highlighter!

For travel, you can get by with two or three good makeup brushes. An angled shadow brush that can be used for eyeshadow, concealer and highlighter (wipe the previous product off first), and a powder brush for powder foundation and blush. If you want to use the darker palette shades as eyeliner you can use the angled brow defining brush with a spoolie on one end to tame your brows.

As you can see, leaving home doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your skincare or makeup routine. Follow our tips and you’ll be all set for a radiant vacation. All you have to do now is pack your bags!
